How to Troubleshoot a New Frigidaire Refrigerator

How to Troubleshoot a New Frigidaire Refrigerator. Frigidaire is a home appliance brand owned by White Consolidated Industries. The brand has developed a full line of fridges since the world's first self-contained refrigerator was released under the Frigidaire name in the early 1900s. However, even the best new refrigerator can sometimes malfunction. Learn how to troubleshoot a Frigidaire refrigerator shortly after installing it to overcome such problems so you can enjoy chilled, fresh food.

Things Needed

  • Frigidaire refrigerator

Step 1

Make sure the Frigidaire refrigerator is plugged directly into a reliable electrical outlet if the fridge's interior is warm, or if it is cold but unexpectedly shuts off. Plugging the appliance into a shared outlet or an extension cable can prevent the fridge from getting the full amount of voltage that it needs to operate.

Step 2

Inspect how you've stocked the Frigidaire fridge if your fridge's contents are not sufficiently cold. Filling the fridge with too many items too quickly when it's first turned on will prevent it from chilling quickly. In addition, stocking it too fully will restrict the air flow from its cooling vents, lowering circulation and creating warm spots within the fridge's interior.

Step 3

Adjust the Frigidaire refrigerator's temperature controls if you notice food in your fridge is freezing or has excessive frost or excessive condensation. Press the arrows under "Fresh Food Temp" on the fridge's display panel to raise or lower the internal temperatures. Frigidaire's factory setting sets the temperature to 37 degrees Fahrenheit, but it can be raised as high as 47 degrees or lowered to 33 degrees.

Step 4

Make sure you've shut the Frigidaire refrigerator's door securely and that nothing is sticking out to break its rubber seal if you find condensation on the outside of the fridge. The refrigerator uses a rubber strip along the inside edges of the door to prevent warm air from entering the appliance. Breaking this seal will raise temperatures within the appliance while creating external condensation.

Step 5

Prime the Frigidaire's water system after installation by a technician before use to prevent problems when using the water dispenser on the front of the appliance. Place a water glass under the dispenser's nozzle, and press down on the back panel for two minutes. The system will spurt and make strange noises, but do not be alarmed. This process forces water out of the system. Once water starts flowing, continue to dispense water for three minutes to clean out any impurities or trapped water bubbles.

  • Allow the Frigidaire fridge to run empty for 8 to 12 hours to let it chill rapidly rather than filling the fridge with items immediately.
